Let There Be HEAT!!!
Posted by Busy Nothings on January 28, 2009
For all of my lamenting about having been born in the wrong century, I’m very grateful for the wonder of having electricity flowing through the walls of my house. Thirty-nine hours without electricity gives a lot of time to read, to fold clothes, to contemplate how different your own home can appear when it’s devoid of all artificial light and the normal noise of electronics, and frankly to blankly stare into the flames in the fireplace and candles. I had to dry my hair, pioneer style this morning by sitting next the fire for about an hour, combing my hair and rotating from side to side. It wasn’t a fun experience, but honestly, I’m just happy to have power. I’ll blog more tomorrow, after I have time to sort my many thoughts.

And lo, it was good
Glad it came back. The longest I’ve ever been without electricity was two weeks, and that was enough to convince me that as nostalgic as I get about living in Regency or Victorian or Edwardian times, I much prefer being able to take a shower on a daily basis, thank you very much.

Yea for heat!! Modern technologies make us grateful indeed.
During that last hurricane we had power but no water for a few days. It was tough but made me appreciate more what my great-grandparents went through in their day to day lives.

Brandon and I were without electricity for three days once. We had water, but that’s it. I had to do without drying my hair at all ~ air dry was more like it. I always thought I would be a great “pioneer girl” too. But now I know how much I appreciate our modern ways. Glad you have electricty. Bart’s pictures were amazing! We’re just happy you survived!
