Busy Nothings

“Life seems but a quick succession of busy nothings.” – Jane Austen

A Short Breather

This is definitely one of those days when I’ve felt like I’ve been submerged in a sea of chaos, unsure of when or if I would be able to come up for air. We’re living in, quite frankly, a disaster zone right now. The landscape of Northwest Arkansas will never again be the same as it was prior to the ice storm. Thousands of people are still living without electricity and / or hot water even though the ice is slowly beginning to melt. This is the second absolutley disastrous ice storm that I’ve lived through in nine years. I pray that it’s the last, though I know it’s probably not. To be safe, this will be the last one (unless another hits in the next few months) that the William Gilbreath household will be surviving without a generator.

Work is nothing short of Pandemonium right now.  We’re bombarded with both closings and openings as some places still are without power (and will likely remain that way a good while longer), and some want to post that they are finally open once more.  We have crews (now that the roads are beginning to thaw safely) literally taking their own chainsaws out in order to cut their way to our transmitter locations so that they can turn on the backup generators.  Meanwhile those who do have power of some sort are calling, asking why we’re not on the air via antenna.  The Super Bowl is Sunday on our NBC affiliate, and the satellite providers are having equipment problems only with our station.   Speaking of the Super Bowl, among other sundry things I had to make sure that certain promos will run at certain times Sunday.  Usually have pretty much have free reign over where I place promos, but not for the biggest TV even of the year.

So, that’s my past two days at work.  At home, I can’t let Lucy loose in the back yard because it’s turning into a giant mud pit.  She’s got a horrible case of cabin fever, and it just never ends………………………………
