The Seven TV Shows I Bother to Watch and Why
Posted by Busy Nothings on May 2, 2007
I posted a version of this earlier at one of my former blogs, but I thought I would post it again here. I think it’s important to air these thoughts, especially since How I Met Your Mother May be canceled. It shouldn’t be. It would be a crime against comedy. CBS would forever lose me as a viewer.
Enough about Ugly Betty! No more, “Save the Cheerleader, Save the World!” Please, no more CSI’s! Get out of the The Office! Earl has to die!
Brothers and Sisters
I am in love with this television show. I think that it has an all-star, sensational cast, and is great story-telling. Sally Field as Nora Walker alone is worth watching as she struggles with life after the death of her cheating, stealing husband.
I honestly don’t know why this show doesn’t get more great publicity. It is Must See TV in my house every week. Right now I can’t wait to know if Justin will have to go to Iraq, if the Walker siblings will meet their sister Rebecca, and so on. It’s intriguing.
How I Met Your Mother
This is my favorite show on tv these days since I don’t have a CW affiliate. It’s a show that I fell in love with during summer reruns. I’m now addicted and hope to get the first season on DVD. This is the only sitcom that I can make myself sit through. I love that Robin and Ted are together, and I’m dying to know who the mother is if it’s not Robin. I’m also thrilled that Lilly and Marshall are back together because they are the perfect, cutest couple on tv.
30 Rock
Since I work for an NBC affiliate, I made sure to watch the pilot episode of 30 Rock because I love the humor of Tina Fey. She has a sense of humor that I feel akin to. The pilot didn’t wow me, but thank TPTB for posting full episodes on NBC.com, because I have become addicted to this superb piece of comedy. Like How I Met Your Mother, 30 Rock is a breath of fresh air. I always find something to laugh at, and it usually involves Liz Lemon’s love life. From the boyfriend who was on Dateline’s To Catch a Predator to the date who turned out to be a relative, this is just too funny.
South Park
Nothing is sacred and no one is safe, therefore I love this show. It’s current and it’s relevant. For anyone who gets a kick at how seriously people take things and general opinions of the public, you should definitely watch this satire.
Gilmore Girls
So I may not have been happy when Lorelai and Luke broke up, but I’m actually enjoying this season of GG more than I did last year. Yes, the show is a little different since the Palladinos left, but they sort of wrote the show into a nasty little corner. It’s been an interesting journey to see how Rosenthal has been digging it out. This is still my all-time favorite series. It’s the only one that I own all the DVD’s to.
Desperate Housewives
I have to admit that I tried to not be pulled in by all the hype the last couple of years, but I started really watching this show during the third season opener. Now my husband and I are addicted to it as well as Brothers and Sisters. The episode, Bang, was superb acting and storytelling. There’s just the right amount of drama and comedy to keep me interested.
The New Adventures of Old Christine
Back in the Seinfeld days, I always thought that Elaine was the funniest character. Maybe that’s because she was the lone girl in the cast, but I just loved her. Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Christine is ten times funnier and more realistic than Elaine, and with Wanda Sykes as her best friend, I always remember to stay seated once How I Met Your Mother is over because this show deserves all the accolades that it has received. Both How I Met Your Mother and The New Adventures of Old Christine are far better and funnier than Two and a Half Men. That show is too raunchy these days. I don’t even know what airs after Two and a Half Men. They’ve lost me by then.

I’m cold and wet, therefore I’m crabby
Posted by Busy Nothings on May 9, 2006
Apparently last night, David Blaine was unable to hold his breath a record amount of time after having been enclosed in some little pod under water for an amount of time that I’m unsure of. Pity. Had he succeeded, he doubtless would have inspired countless children and stupid adults to try to do the same, though without the proper equipment, training, and on-hand medical teams. In the nineties, people thought that Beevis and Butthead were poor examples and encouraged children to do stupid stunts, but I think that this is just a bad or worse.
In other subjects, I watched parts of the 7th Heaven series finale last night. I’ve watched the series off and on since the beginning, so I thought that I would give it a final send off. I should have known that it was go out in true, ridiculous, Camden style. The surprise ending was just a little too saccharine for me, but then that’s why I only occasionally watched the show to begin with.
Tonight is the season finale of Gilmore Girls. I’m almost dreading it because I’m fairly certain that it will mark the end of the Luke and Lorelai relationship. Not that I’ve liked the character of Luke since the Thanksgiving episode, though. It’s very obvious that the Pallidinos are tired of writing for the show because they’ve done a pretty thorough job of destroying the very elements of the show that made it click.
I’m wet and cold because it was raining cats and dogs when I got to work, and I stupidly fed the meter instead of just sucking it up and getting a $5.00 ticket. I must get to work as well. So, until I blog again…

Tormented Over Missing “The Prodigal Daughter Returns.”
Posted by Busy Nothings on November 16, 2005
I have spent my entire day tormented, wondering what happened last night on Gilmore Girls even though I pretty much knew what would happen. Winter finally blew in with a gust of fury yesterday and knocked out our electricity. I was unhappy because I would miss Gilmore Girls, but Bart was totally freaking out.
You see, he in as sweet, anal, country music loving way, has taped every CMA broadcast since 1992. Personally, I could have cared less, but Bart was a man on a mission and called his grandparents to see if we could crash there while he taped the broadcast. They didn’t mind, we did, and I still didn’t get to watch my show.
I’ve finally seen it. I won’t go into details how. It was very satisfying. I’m going to show it to Bart later. If only we can get rid of the nerdy kid now. I’m afraid they’re going all Cousin Oliver like the Brady Bunch on me, and the ratings are great for Gilmore Girls. There’s no need to go Cousin Oliver. It would make more sense to add a Chrissy or Andrew like Growing Pains or Family Ties.

My New Favorite Phrase
Posted by Busy Nothings on October 14, 2005
I heard this phrase on Gilmore Girls “Ted Koppel’s Night Out” last week, and it’s become my favorite thing to say. Here’s part of the script. It’s set at Sookie’s house between Lorelai and Davey’s nanny, Bruce.
“LORELAI: But we’re on schedule, and when I left, the plumbing contractor was unloading all sorts of impressive-looking copper pipes, so that’s something, I guess, and. . .oh, Bruce.
BRUCE: Hello.
LORELAI: I thought you’d gone.
BRUCE: I came back.
LORELAI: Well, there you go.
SOOKIE: Bruce is not only a midwife, she’s also a lactation specialist.
LORELAI: Yikes.
MICHEL: Ugh.
BRUCE: Is that the sneezer?
MICHEL: It was dust. What are these big green things with wings?
LORELAI: You know, Bruce, I didn’t get a chance to tell you how impressed I was by the home birth. It was just amazing to watch and very, very special.
BRUCE: Did you talk baby talk to Davey?
LORELAI: Yes.
BRUCE: Every second Davey’s brain is hard-wiring for life. Baby talk can retard his language-acquisition rate. Is that what you want?
LORELAI: Definitely not. I want him fully tarded.”
Not “Fully tarded” is now my favorite way to describe stupid people! I know, I’m mean.
Now playing: Carole King – Tapestry
