Monday Morning Musings

Posted by Busy Nothings on January 12, 2009

  • Let’s face, Monday mornings are a drag. The only good thing about Monday mornings is that they can only possibly occur once a week. Well, that and they lead to Monday nights, when we can watch How I Met Your Mother and The Big Bang Theory. Those are two of the the very few television programs we regularly watch; a list that has grown shorter with ABC’s cancellation of Pushing Daisies. I know it’s an expensive show to produce, but it’s just much much more interesting than any cheap, reality show that they can replace it with. I’m sorely disappointed with the execs at ABC for this.
  • I know that I’m in the minority here, but I’m going to miss George W. as our President, and this isn’t just my Republicanism speaking. He think that history will probably be a better judge of his administration than today’s media-motivated populace. Have I agreed with all of his decisions? Hardly, but I believe that executed his position in the manner he felt best.
  • I had a nice day Friday antiquing with my mom, believe it or not. She’s been far less Mom-ish lately. I don’t know if she realized exactly how critical she was of everything last time she was at my house or what, but I really enjoyed her visit this time. I hope (futilely, I’m sure) that this lasts. I also picked up a couple more cameras.
  • I did not watch The Golden Globe Awards last night. I highly doubt I watch the Oscars either. I definitely didn’t watch the People’s Choice Awards, nor will I watch the SAG Awards, nor any other awards show. I’m rather sick of Hollywood forcing us to watch them pat themselves on the back for making mostly sub-par, if not quite mediocre entertainment.   The older I get, the more I’m convinced that the near-worship of celebrities is yet another reason our society and culture is ultimately doomed to fail.  Our heroes are no longer people of real worth and / or heroism, but fake people with fake smiles and fake body parts who are largely, greatly uneducated yet they still think they should tell us how to live, think, feel, worship, and vote.
  • It’s almost noon, and I’m still having difficulty waking up.  That’s probably because I felt the need to take some Benadryl before leaving the house this morning though.  I don’t want to say that I’m allergic to work, because that sounds stupid, but I believe that I’m allergic to my place of work, just as many others here are.

Obersvations and other Random Things.

Posted by Busy Nothings on September 29, 2008

  • Friday morning I left work around 11 AM with what had to have been one of the most debilitating migraines I have ever suffered. I awoke feeling odd, but still quite able to go to work. Then, around 9, it hit me honestly like a freight train. There were none of the floaters that I’m accustomed to that warn me of a migraine, just nausea and sudden, rapid eye twitching. So, I finished the work that I had to complete some how and left. That sort of put a damper on my weekend. Though the pain subsided by that evening, I honestly felt off most of the weekend. Nonetheless, I completed a substantial amount of housework, played with the poochie-girl, and enjoyed time with Bart. Still yet, I hate migraines.
  • I have started going back and reading some of my stuff in order to get to know my characters again. I trying, in all honesty, to “get back in the saddle” one step at a time.
  • I had a particularly “huggy” puppy-dog this morning. She always is on Mondays though. She gets to spend so much time with us on the weekend, that when we start our weekly routine, it’s like she’s begging us to just stay home with her.
  • I also think that if Lucy was a human, she would be one of those people who secretly poisons her loved ones so that they will have to stay near her, and she would have to take care of them. The joy she derived from spending Friday in bed with me while I slept off my migraine was unmistakable.
  • My Sooners are ranked Number 1 in the AP Poll for the 69′th time, breaking a tie with Notre Dame. Of that I am very proud.
  • How thrilled am I that the new TV season is here? More so than I should be, probably. Last night we happily enjoyed Desperate Housewives and Brothers and Sisters. Tonight there will be new episodes of How I Met Your Mother, Big Bang Theory, and Two and a Half Men, and Wednesday night is the return of Pushing Daisies! I love that show and have bought all but two episodes from iTunes. I’m sure I’ll have to get the last two soon.

Things That Make You Go Hmm….. Volume I

Posted by Busy Nothings on April 22, 2008

I will never understand the obsession people have with taking a picture of themselves in a car andthen using that picture for their profile on countless social networks.  I suppose most are decent pictures, taken when the subject is made up for something.  However I don’t think that I’ve ever been sitting behind the wheel, camera in hand, and thought, “I think I just snap a quick photo of myself.”

I think thiswoman’s golden retriever puppies are part yellow lab.  She keeps dropping the price, and an email confirmed she thinks her lab may be the babydaddy.  I wonder if I could talk Bart into another baby-dog for my birthday?  Probably not.

What will become of the kiss that ended last night’s episode ofHow I Met Your Mother?  I can’t see the show being the same withBarneyin a monogamous relationship, but I imagine it will beRobinwho puts the breaks on things.  Speaking of HIMYM, doesn’t it just suck that you can’t embed video? HulubeatsJoosthands down.

WARNING !!! Ted Mosby is a Jerk!

Posted by Busy Nothings on April 1, 2008

Last night had to be one of the funniest episodes of "How I Met Your Mother" ever.  One of the things that I love so much about this show is that when they mention a website, it really exists.  Tedmosbyisajerk.com is a real Blogger page "created" by the girl that Barney picked up last season while pretending to be "Ted Mosby, Architect."

This episode had so many great moments that come so easily for the writers and creators of HIMYM, but by far the funniest, I think, was the nod we finally got to Neil Patrick Harris' first TV role, Doogie Howser, M.D, where we see Barney update his blog, complete with theme music and blue-screen word processor.

How I Met Your Mother is by far my favorite show on television these days, and I know many people who agree.  It has yet to be renewed for a fourth season, so please, CBS, don't make me have to quit watching everything else on your network.

The Seven TV Shows I Bother to Watch and Why

Posted by Busy Nothings on May 2, 2007

I posted a version of this earlier at one of my former blogs, but I thought I would post it again here. I think it’s important to air these thoughts, especially since How I Met Your Mother May be canceled. It shouldn’t be. It would be a crime against comedy. CBS would forever lose me as a viewer.

Enough about Ugly Betty! No more, “Save the Cheerleader, Save the World!” Please, no more CSI’s! Get out of the The Office! Earl has to die!

Brothers and Sisters
I am in love with this television show. I think that it has an all-star, sensational cast, and is great story-telling. Sally Field as Nora Walker alone is worth watching as she struggles with life after the death of her cheating, stealing husband.

I honestly don’t know why this show doesn’t get more great publicity. It is Must See TV in my house every week. Right now I can’t wait to know if Justin will have to go to Iraq, if the Walker siblings will meet their sister Rebecca, and so on. It’s intriguing.

How I Met Your Mother

This is my favorite show on tv these days since I don’t have a CW affiliate. It’s a show that I fell in love with during summer reruns. I’m now addicted and hope to get the first season on DVD. This is the only sitcom that I can make myself sit through. I love that Robin and Ted are together, and I’m dying to know who the mother is if it’s not Robin. I’m also thrilled that Lilly and Marshall are back together because they are the perfect, cutest couple on tv.

30 Rock
Since I work for an NBC affiliate, I made sure to watch the pilot episode of 30 Rock because I love the humor of Tina Fey. She has a sense of humor that I feel akin to. The pilot didn’t wow me, but thank TPTB for posting full episodes on NBC.com, because I have become addicted to this superb piece of comedy. Like How I Met Your Mother, 30 Rock is a breath of fresh air. I always find something to laugh at, and it usually involves Liz Lemon’s love life. From the boyfriend who was on Dateline’s To Catch a Predator to the date who turned out to be a relative, this is just too funny.

South Park
Nothing is sacred and no one is safe, therefore I love this show. It’s current and it’s relevant. For anyone who gets a kick at how seriously people take things and general opinions of the public, you should definitely watch this satire.

Gilmore Girls
So I may not have been happy when Lorelai and Luke broke up, but I’m actually enjoying this season of GG more than I did last year. Yes, the show is a little different since the Palladinos left, but they sort of wrote the show into a nasty little corner. It’s been an interesting journey to see how Rosenthal has been digging it out. This is still my all-time favorite series. It’s the only one that I own all the DVD’s to.

Desperate Housewives
I have to admit that I tried to not be pulled in by all the hype the last couple of years, but I started really watching this show during the third season opener. Now my husband and I are addicted to it as well as Brothers and Sisters. The episode, Bang, was superb acting and storytelling. There’s just the right amount of drama and comedy to keep me interested.

The New Adventures of Old Christine
Back in the Seinfeld days, I always thought that Elaine was the funniest character. Maybe that’s because she was the lone girl in the cast, but I just loved her. Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Christine is ten times funnier and more realistic than Elaine, and with Wanda Sykes as her best friend, I always remember to stay seated once How I Met Your Mother is over because this show deserves all the accolades that it has received. Both How I Met Your Mother and The New Adventures of Old Christine are far better and funnier than Two and a Half Men. That show is too raunchy these days. I don’t even know what airs after Two and a Half Men. They’ve lost me by then.
